Today is Pi Day! Let’s Celebrate with Pizza Pie!
Monday, March 14, 2016
March 14 (3.14) is celebrated annually as Pi Day because the date mimics the first three digits of Pi (3.14159265359… for a million digits, see this site).
What is Pi?
Pi (π) is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi is a constant number, meaning that for all circles of any size, Pi will be the same.
The diameter of a circle is the distance from edge to edge, measuring straight through the center. The circumference of a circle is the distance around.
Fun Facts about Pi
If you hold a mirror up to a circle, it still looks just like a circle. But if you hold a mirror up to the number 3.14, it looks like the word “pie.”
Some clever South Africans have invented a new game in honor of Pi Day. Played on a circular court around a central circular ball strike area, it most resembles volleyball or badminton. See how it’s played on this video.
Check The New York Times for a Pi Puzzle on the blog Numberplay. Pi can be computed to any number of digits using two colliding balls. This will make more sense when you read the puzzle here.
But of course the best way to celebrate Pi Day is to share your love of pizza pie with coworkers, friends, and family! Give us a call to place your order for pick up, delivery, or dine in.
